Leaked comments posted on Reddit revealed racist remarks purportedly made (and later acknowledged) by L.A. City Council President Nury Martinez. She later resigned from the role of Council President only. Many detractors want her to resign entirely from the council office she holds.
The hour-long conversation centered on redistricting efforts, but the most egregious comments focused on the young son of a fellow council member, Mike Bonin.
Councilman Bonin has since called on the resignation of all involved:
"The LA Times is calling for Nury Martinez, Kevin de León, and Gil Cedillo to resign. They must. So must labor chief Ron Herrera. That’s where the accountability and healing Los Angeles desperately needs and deserves will begin."
